Phillip Island Massage Therapy – Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a waiting room?

We request that patients arrive no more than 5 minutes prior to their appointment time. This is because we do not have a waiting room and we want to ensure the comfort of our clientele.

What are your late arrivals and cancellations fees?

At Phillip Island Massage Therapy, we understand that sometimes things happen and you wont be able to attend your appointment. Unfortunately late cancellations and missed appointments exclude others from receiving treatment, and inconvenience both the therapist and other waiting clients. If you can no longer make your appointment please let us know as soon as possible.

Because we have specifically kept your appointment, the following cancellation fees will apply should appropriate notice not be given.

Cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours notice: 100% booked appointment fee. Missed appointment: 100% cancellation fee. Thank you for understanding.

Late arrivals

Please note our appointments conclude at the scheduled time. Running late? We will try our best to accommodate you and give you your full session. Please bear in mind that this may not always be possible due to other appointments. The session will be charged at the booked rate.

What should I expect during my first massage?

Your very first treatment session with PIMT will begin by filling out a confidential medical history form to establish your current level of health. This also serves to ensure that there are no contraindications to the treatment. (Please arrive 5 minutes earlier to allow time to complete this form). It is essential that you list all current & past conditions including allergies & medications being taken so that your therapist can adapt the session to your specific needs.

After reviewing your health history form & before commencing your treatment, your therapist will guide you through a postural assessment, range of movement tests, questions regarding your symptoms in order to ensure they develop the best possible & most effective treatment plan for you.
Once your your health history for has been reviewed & following a short interview in order to ascertain your goals for the treatment, your therapist will commence with a treatment tailored to your needs.
Your therapist will then leave the room and let you undress and get on the table. Please keep your underwear on at all times.

Once you are on the table your therapist will ensure you’re covered with a towel and will only uncover the part of the body being worked on.
During your massage treatment do not hesitate to ask questions or make specific requests eg. in relation to the pressure your therapist is applying, if you get too hot or too cold and always ask any questions you may have in regards to your treatment during or after the session. At the conclusion of your treatment, your therapist will leave the room, allowing you to dress yourself in privacy. Your therapist will quite often recommend stretching and strengthening exercises where required.

What should I expect after my massage?

Depending on the type of massage you have eg. Deep Tissue Massage your muscles may feel tender for 24 to 48 hours after your treatment. The sensation is very similar to the one you have after a good gym session but don’t worry this is a very normal response. With regular massage treatments this is less likely to occur.

Furthermore, we highly recommend drinking 1 litre of water after your massage to re-hydrate your body. Also, toxins released from the tissues during the massage go into your system and water helps to clear these away.
