Andrew and his young family are a recent addition to the Phillip Island community. They join us from Melbourne’s South Eastern Suburbs and look forward to establishing themselves in the region.

Andrew brings with him a wealth of experience as both a Remedial Massage Therapist and a Pilates Instructor. Therefore, he is definitely someone who is familiar with caring for patients muscles.

You can book an appointment with Andrew on most Saturdays, and he can provide a strong targeted massage which we highly recommend trying. Andrew also has a very friendly and approachable demeanor; he has spent a good portion of his youth working in customer service oriented roles.

Due to changes implemented by the State and Federal government, we are under significant strain as a small business. Since we are beneath the GST threshold we are not eligible to receive government financial assistance during this time.

We have therefore had to make some changes to our cancellation policy in order to minimize the impact of our losses from COVID-19 lockdowns. We were once able to provide a 24-hour window of cancellation, however, we can no longer afford to risk any vacant spots remaining unfilled due to cancellations. Therefore we have extended our cancellation timeframe to 48 hours in order to mitigate this.

This does not necessarily mean you will lose your money if a lockdown occurs. Depending on circumstances, you may be given an opportunity to reschedule to a later date or receive a gift voucher in lieu of a refund.

Covid-19 hygeine

Our hygiene procedures prior to Covid-19 were already very strict. We clean our equipment thoroughly with antibacterial spray and provide clean towels to each customer. PIMT staff also practice impeccable personal hygiene and wash our hands with soap in between each client.

We also wipe down any surfaces which a customer would likely come into contact with and our staff do not work if they are feeling unwell in any way. In such an event your appointment may be canceled and you will be rescheduled or refunded depending on your circumstance.

When operating as mobile massage therapists we also request that our clients provide a clean and disinfected workspace for the protection of our practitioners.

We also request that vaccinated customers take the same precautions as unvaccinated customers. A recent scientific study by the CDC showed vaccinated people carry the same viral load as unvaccinated. You can read more about it here

For anyone contemplating ending their own life, we should strongly recommend seeking help from Lifeline. Lifeline is a non-profit organization that provides around-the-clock crisis support free-of-charge. They can be contacted by calling 13 11 44 and specialized in suicide prevention and support.

We strongly recommend that anyone who is struggling with their mental health during this time takes steps to take care of their mental and physical health. We are fortunately still open for business and continue to provide remedial massage services however we are not trained as counselors so we highly recommend seeking help through one of the aforementioned services if you feel that you need it.

If you or someone you know suffers from numbness, tingling or weakness of their hands and arms they may have the symptoms of Carpal tunnel syndrome.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common medical condition due to compression of the median nerve as it travels through in between the wrist and tendons in the carpal tunnel.

Signs and Symptoms

1. Tingling or numbness in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and half of the ring finger.
2. Pain in the other fingers except little finger may be a sign of carpal tunnel syndrome.
3. Weakness in hands and fingers.
4. Aching or pain in forearm and wrist.
5. Pain is worse at night
6. Pain may radiate up the arm

Treatment for CTS

The general treatment of CTS includes complete rest of the wrist by wearing a splint. Cold therapy helps a lot to relieve the swelling and inflammation.

Surgery is performed in severe cases. Carpal tunnel release is a very simple operation in which carpal ligament is cut in order to enlarge the carpal tunnel and relieve the pressure on the median nerve. This is done either by open technique or endoscopic technique

Exercises

• Wrist Flexion: Gently bend your wrist forward. Hold for 5- 10 seconds
• Wrist Extension: Gently bend your wrist backward. Hold for 5-10  seconds
• Side to side: Gently move your wrist from side to side (handshake motion). Hold for 5 seconds in each direction
• Wrist stretch: Press the back of the hand on your injured side with your other hand to help bend your wrist. Hold for 15-30 seconds. Stretch the hand back by pressing the fingers in a backward direction. Hold for 15-30 seconds. Keep the arm on your injured side straight during this exercise (3 sets).
• Grip strength: Squeeze a soft rubber ball for 5 seconds (2 sets of 15) backward and look up toward the ceiling (10 times, several times/day).
